Summary
Description
France has a long history with the sport of Lacrosse, having named the modern version. The club scene in France is growing at a steady pace, with older clubs (Lille, est. 2006) and much younger clubs (Toulouse, est. 2023) putting down roots all around the country.
France has been a member of World Lacrosse since 2008, with the Men’s Field Lacrosse National Team competing in European and World Championships since. At the most recent World Championships in San Diego, July 2023, France secured their highest ever ranking, at 18th in the world. The goal for the Men’s National Team in the coming years is to maintain/improve this ranking while simultaneously integrating more homegrown players into the national squad.
While there is currently no national representation in the Women’s game, Box Lacrosse or Sixes, France Lacrosse is working on developing these formats, with trials for all the aforementioned squads scheduled for the coming months.
In October 2023, lacrosse received approval from the International Olympic Committee for inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
